LAKE COUNTY — A 7-year-old Fort Pierce boy was killed in a traffic crash on Florida’s Turnpike early Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The collision happened between a semi-truck and a minivan carrying the boy, Adrian Perez, and five others, troopers said. Both were traveling north in Lake County at mile marker 290.
About 1:15 a.m., the semi rear-ended the Dodge Grand Caravan, causing it to collide with a guardrail and overturn, troopers said.
Adrian was taken to a hospital in Leesberg, where he died, FHP said.
Four other people in the minivan, including the driver, Natalia Ramirez Martin, 31, of Fort Pierce, were treated for serious injuries at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
The other adult passenger, Salvador Hernandez, 32, of Fort Pierce suffered minor injuries.
The other children inside the minivan — Elbia Perez, 9, Kayla Perez, 6, and Avelino Perez, 4 — were being treated for their injuries at ORMC. All are from Fort Pierce.
Everyone in the minivan was wearing seat belts, FHP said.
The semi driver was identified as William Irvin Anderson Jr., 51, of West Park.
The investigation is ongoing.
