War Memorial dedicated in Port St. Lucie | North County

Dunedin resident Steve Udovich was among the speakers April 20 at a dedication ceremony for the Iraq and Afghanistan War Memorial at Veterans Memorial Park in Port St. Lucie.

Udovich, founder of the Iraq and Afghanistan War Memorial Foundation, was on hand for the unveiling of the monument which is the first in Florida to honor the individual military personnel lost in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. It lists the names of 349 Floridians who were killed in those wars to honor their service and sacrifice.

The foundation raised more than $100,000 for the monument, which cost about $75,000. The money left over was distributed before the end of last year to several different charities

Dunedin VFW Post 2550 was the largest donor for the memorial, contributing $12,000, Udovich said. The post also attended the ceremony.
